Skinny Super Bowl Sunday

The super bowl is more than just a game, it is getting together with friends and family for a fun time of celebrating great food and football.  Other than football, food is the next best thing for the big day. There are so many dips out there and easy-picking dishes to serve. As many of you know, these foods are often very high in calories and fat. But because they are snacks and not a full-sit-down meal, many people do not realize how much they are eating; bite after bite adds up at the end! Also people are watching the game while eating and sometimes they do not pay attention to how much they have put in their mouth or what they are eating. Don't deprive yourself of the yumminess, but watch your portions! Ex: You love wings, so limit yourself to 4 instead of 6 (2 buffalo style chicken wings= 190 calories, 13 g of fat).

Here are a few tips for the Super Bowl Sunday to help your waist line:
-Gather a plate together with a BITE of everything you love. Watch portions!
-Munch on vegetables and fruit to fill you up first.
-Use vegetables to replace chips for dippers. (Ex: Celery and buffalo chicken dip, red pepper and guacamole, cucumber and spinach dip)
-Bring a healthy dish (ideas below).
-Once you have your favorites on the plate, walk away from the food table.
-Eat your food when you can focus on it more (during commercials) and enjoy the game while it is going on. This will remind you of what you are putting in your mouth.
-Talk and enjoy the company.
-Don't forget that drinks have calories too!
-Enjoy the day, but just be smart with your food choices.
